I’m very excited about this little park. I’d love to see Coney Island become a hot spot once again. This is a start in the right direction. Condos were the alternative.

One of my earliest memories as a kid of Coney Island is driving along Surf Ave and checking out the prostitutes. They were on the side of the street opposite the rides, which I can’t remember much.

I took these photos today of the new Luna Park, which they hope to open in just under four weeks on Memorial Day. They are supposedly working 24/7 to see the project to completion.

There is also one photo from the boardwalk of a tract of land on Kensington Walk and Surf Avenue. It looks like another great place for a new attraction.

All photos are labeled. I included some of the Cyclone because it’s right next door to the new Luna Park.

I saw this virtual tour video of the NEW LUNA PARK on the Gothamist.com. Right now they are working overtime to get the park ready for this Memorial Day. The rides are being tested in Vicenza, Italy and shipped over here one piece at a time. Just kidding kiddie poohs . They are coming here in parts.

Coney Island has such a rich and treasured history, hopefully this new park will trigger a rebirth. Though all in all I’m certain that one day Coney will recapture its former glory, and then some!

I love this clip! To me it represents Coney Island’s zenith caught on film.

If I could go back in time I’d visit with George Washington, Abe Lincoln, Jesus, Einstein, and Henry V. Miller. Then I’d zip over to Coney Island, ride the Steeplechase, and afterwards, file into the Blowhole Theater for an electric jolt by a clown and a whack by a midget with a rubber noodle.

I’d probably stick around for a while and leer at the ladies coming over the blowhole, too.

I couldn’t find any footage from the Ric Burns documentary on Coney Island(1991). So instead I decided to put up a few related clips I found on YouTube.

But if you have a chance, check out that film. I absolutely loved it. Al Lewis, Grandpa from The Munster’s, makes an appearance. It’s worth it just for the avant-garde audio. Right now you can buy a copy on Amazon.com for about $10 +S/H.
