I like going to seaside places in NYC like Broad Channel. If I listen close enough I can hear echoes from the past, escecially the gay voices of summers-long-gone.

In the above photo you can see a diving board. When I first saw it, for a half-sec I wondered what it was for . . .

As a child I can remember a family outing to Coney Island. Standing twenty yards or so out in the water was a group of Hispanics, who kept lifting something up with their feet and dropping it in buckets. I asked my dad what they were doing and he said, “crabbing.” From there after I was basically done with swimming in anything other than a pool.

Actually, I wouldn’t consider swimming west of the Hamptons or north of Belmar.

This was my first time ever in Riis Park. The place is a bit of a joke because it’s the *only area in NYC where people can sunbathe in the nude, which for a variety of reasons is not palatable here. Maybe because we’re not in the best shape here, plus when New Yorkers look, they LOOK.

*I’m not sure of that stat, but I’m pretty sure, pretty sure . . .

Most of these photos are from Riis Landing at Breezy Point in Rockaway, Queens. A few are from Fort Tilden, which is across the street. The sculpture is called ”LOOKING TO SEA” by Peter Lundberg. The waterway is Jamaica Bay.

Right down the road from where I took these photos is the Breezy Point community, which is known as the ‘Irish Riviera.’ I drove over there, yet didn’t take any photos because all the streets were gated, and I needed a permit to park.
